George Ben “B.B.” McKenzie, 84, a resident of Stateline, died early Monday morning, April 18, 2016, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center.
He was a longtime active member and deacon of Briarwood Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. B.B. taught school in Franklinton for many years before retiring in 1974 to then become a successful dairyman.
During his time as a dairyman, he served for years on the boards of Dairyman, Inc. and Farm Bureau. He loved fishing and the outdoors, often taking an out of state hunting trip each year until he was unable. He liked attending different types of auctions and was always a very friendly person.
B.B. was quick to greet others with a smile and a handshake, and then visit with the people he met. He was always a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by: a son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Kelli McKenzie of Stateline; a daughter and son-in-law, Liz Anne and Peter Nyflot of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Jacob Akers, Tanner McKenzie and Savannah McKenzie; a sister-in-law, Ann Thomas of Tylertown; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Sue Crain McKenzie; parents, Donese McKenzie and Dehlia Berry McKenzie; and a brother, Jewell McKenzie.
Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 19, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, April 20, at Briarwood Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Eric Williams and the Rev. Jerry Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Drew Broome, Josh Broome, Justin Magee, Brandon Magee, Luke McKenzie, Chet Cooper and Clay Cooper.
Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert McKenzie, Nate McKenzie, Ronald McKenzie, Ronald Joe Kennedy, James Rogers and Arlie O’Bryant.
