Last season, Gabby Alexander was part of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Women’s Basketball Invitational last year and now the team is going for its second-straight title.
The Ragin’ Cajuns are the top-seeded club in the event.
This season, Alexander, a 2013 Bogalusa High School graduate, has played in 26 games and averages 1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game over 6.5 minutes per contest.
She has converted eight of her 11 free-throw attempts for a 72.7 percentage from the line.
The team played its opening round game of the single-elimination event on Wednesday and defeated eighth-seeded Northwestern State University, 69-54.
Louisiana led 28-8 after the first quarter before Northwestern trimmed the lead to 14 by halftime at 38-24.
Louisiana then outscored Northwestern, 25-13, in the third quarter en route to the victory.
Alexander scored two points, grabbed a rebound, blocked a shot and recorded a steal in the win.
The Ragin’ Cajuns are back in action tomorrow at the Earl K. Long Gymnasium with tipoff set for 7 p.m. They play the winner of No. 5 McNeese State and No. 4 Stetson, which took place after Thursday’s press time. Louisiana has a 22-10 record.
Good luck to Alexander and the Ragin’ Cajuns.
