The main goal for every team in sports at the outset of a season is reaching the playoffs.

For four local LHSAA boys’ basketball teams tonight, they will see that goal through, as they begin what they hope will be a long playoff run that concludes with hoisting the championship trophy.

Franklinton and Varnado are at home tonight.

The Demons are hosting Bastrop at 7 p.m. in the Class 4A postseason while the Wildcats take on Ascension Episcopal at 6:30 p.m.

Bogalusa and Mt. Hermon are on the road.

The Lumberjacks are heading to Shreveport to play Green Oaks at 7 p.m. and Mt. Hermon is going to Midland in a 6:30 p.m. start.

Last week, four girls teams, Bogalusa, Mt. Hermon, Pine and Varnado reached the LHSAA postseason, but were unable to capture victories in the opening round.

In the MAIS, Bowling Green’s boys and girls teams advanced through their district tournaments.

The girls won the South State Tournament, but lost in the title game last Saturday. On Wednesday, Bowling Green’s season ended with a loss to Jackson Academy in the Overall State Tournament. The Lady Buccaneers finished the 2015-16 campaign with a 35-7 record.

The boys reached the South State Tournament.

Congratulations to all of these teams and good luck to everyone tonight.
