Have fun, be courteous at MCCA today

Happy Mardi Gras, readers!
In case anyone missed the news, today’s the day the MCCA XXXVI parade is set to roll at 1 p.m. We’re fortunate to have such a large, fun parade right here in Bogalusa so, once again, we would like to thank MCCA Captain Don Spiers, the MCCA royalty and anyone who’s involved with putting on a great show.
Today’s the big day in Bogalusa and we hope everyone gets a chance to get out and enjoy the beautiful day and the parade. That said, we would like to urge everyone to be careful and be smart again this year. We’re pleased that in 36 years, there have been no major accidents or mishaps at a MCCA parade and we hope this year doesn’t break that trend. Please be mindful of others and remember, this is a family-friendly parade.
In addition to safety, the other concern is litter. Of late, there’s been lots of talk at the parish level and at the city level about keeping our community clean. Saturday’s parade is a chance to have fun and see a lot of great entertainment but it’s also a chance to show how much you love the city.
Along with a bag for your beads and throws, bring along a small plastic bag for your garbage and pick up a few pieces that aren’t yours, too. If we all carry back what we bring out and pick up a few extra pieces, the city will be the better off for it and city workers won’t have to work so much after the parade.
Of course, keeping our parade safe and the town looking great isn’t just for our benefit.
This parade brings tens of thousands of visitors to our community from all over the region. We hope our guests have a good time and leave with great memories of Bogalusa. We know MCCA organizers have done all they can to ensure there will be repeated visits. Now, it’s up to the rest of us to do what we can, as well.
