Rocky Owens Sr.

Brother Rocky R. Owens Sr. was born on Oct. 7, 1953, in Tylertown, Miss., to the late Arvene and Ruby Owens. He departed this life on Jan. 15, 2016, at the age of 62.

Brother Owens joined Mount Olive Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized by the hands of Rev. Biase and remained a member until his death.

Rocky graduated from Wesley Ray High School in 1972.  He was employed with Diamond Offshore Drilling until his health fell in 2004.

He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Zachary (Marilyn) Harry of San Diego, Calif., Tiffany Owens and Rocky R. Owens Jr. of Angie; six grandchildren, Robert Collins of San Diego, Rachel Harry of Charleston, S.C., Ruby Harry of San Diego, Zachary Harry Jr. of San Diego, Zaydien Owens of Franklinton, and Darion Harry of Angie; siblings, Verna Dean (Donald) Gaspard of New Orleans, Ray Vell (Helen) Lewis of Slidell, Eldora (Lenzie) Martin of Detroit, Mich., Linda Faye and Ray Owens of Bogalusa, Rene (Erin) Owens of Bogalusa, and Robert Owens of Columbia, Miss.; aunts, Ruth Allen of St. Rose, Verene W. R. (Silous) Peters of Angie, Linda Peters of New Orleans, and Willie Faye Owens of Hammond; goddaughter, Stephanie Gaspard of New Orleans, and godson Keven Johnson of Angie; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 22, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home. Viewing will be at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Dexter, Miss., from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Reginald Russell will officiate.
