Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC) announced that it was recently recognized by the Community College Week December publication, ranking the nation’s fastest growing community colleges.
In its December 2015 publication, Community College Week ranks NTCC sixth in the nation for fastest growth for a college of its size. Ranked by percent change in headcount for college with enrollments of 2,500 to 4,999, NTCC demonstrated a 16.0 percent increase in student enrollment from fall 2013 to fall 2014.
Chancellor William Wainwright said that NTCC continues to advance student access through workforce training and progressive academic pathways.
“This recognition represents expanded outreach efforts centered on broadened mission advancing increased general education transferable course opportunities coupled with increased high school dual enrollment resulting from a Department of Education and Louisiana Community & Technical College System Jump Start initiative,” Wainwright said. “WISE funding supporting high wage/high skill demand training such as welding, drafting and design technology, and information technology also attributed to the enrollment growth further advancing partnerships with business and industry.
“Market driven programs are mission critical as we grow a strong Louisiana economy and ensure the training needs of business and industry stakeholders.”
Additional college efforts centered on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) are providing added emphasis on high wage and high skill training available for greater Northshore communities, with recent advancements in the training fields of maritime, health sciences, information technology, and advanced manufacturing. The NTCC STEM campus currently under construction in Lacombe will further the growth and development of innovative partnerships focused on the needs of business and industry, Wainwright said.
NTCC serves the greater Northshore region with campuses in Washington, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and St. Helena parishes, with future expansion to Livingston Parish. In partnership with Southeastern Louisiana University, students can benefit from a variety of transfer courses and programs through the
