WASHINGTON PARISH, La. – The Louisiana Department of Education’s (LDOE) recent release of the 2023 performance scores for the state’s public schools and systems has brought encouraging news. Announced on Monday, Nov. 13, the statewide school performance score has not only rebounded but now exceeds pre-pandemic levels, reflecting two consecutive years of educational growth amid the challenges posed by the global health crisis.

The 2023 statewide school performance score marks an improvement, rising by 1.4 points to settle at 78.5. This is a notable advancement from the previous year, when Louisiana successfully matched its pre-pandemic performance score of 77.1. The upward trajectory of these scores suggests effective recovery strategies and resilience in the face of unprecedented disruptions to traditional learning environments.

Within this context, the contrasting scenarios in Washington Parish’s school system and the City of Bogalusa School District take on new significance. While the parish as a whole has maintained a solid ‘B’ grade over the two-year period, the City of Bogalusa School District has seen a positive trend, moving from a ‘D’ to a ‘C’ grade. However, it remains below the state average, underscoring the need for focused educational support and resources to facilitate continued improvement.

The LDOE has made the performance data for schools and school districts publicly accessible, providing transparency and allowing stakeholders to track progress and identify areas that require attention. As the state celebrates surpassing pre-pandemic education performance levels, these insights become a crucial tool for educators, parents, and policymakers committed to advancing the quality and consistency of education across Louisiana.
