Christmas is approaching fast and will be here before you know it.

About five weeks after we celebrate Christmas and New Year’s, we have another chance to celebrate, as it will be Mardi Gras time.

One of the days many look forward to is the day the Magic City Carnival Association rolls through the streets of Bogalusa.

MCCA is a great chance for many to get out and celebrate our great city while having fun, enjoying the bands and catching anything that is thrown from the floats.

This year, MCCA XXXVI is set for Saturday, Feb. 6 and last weekend, the krewe announced its king and queen.

Last weekend, James Dunaway was named the king and Linda Thompson Slade were announced the king and queen of the longtime parade.

Dunaway is a native of Tylertown, Miss., before moving to Bogalusa in 1952. He graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1957.

Slade was born in Poplarville, Miss., but grew up in the Magic City and graduated from BHS in 1970.

It’s a big accomplishment to be named the king or queen of any parade and we extend our congratulations to both of them.
