Glimmie Jackson Jr.

Glimmie Jackson Jr. was born to the late Glimmie Jackson Sr. and Melvena Dexter Jackson on Jan. 24, 1952, in Detroit, Mich. He departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, with his family at his bedside.

“Butch or Butchie,” as he was so affectionately known, was so loved by family and friends. He would spend quality time with his children by going to basketball and softball games, and helping them with their homework. He took time to encourage others to do well in school.

Butch also loved barbecuing and cooking. He loved watching sports (football and basketball) and Western movies. He especially loved to listen to jazz and old school music.

He was united in holy matrimony to Debra Ann Johnson on Nov. 24, 1977, and to this union two children were born, Diamen and Selena Jackson.

After 30 years of faithful and dedicated service, he was a custodian and assistant direction of the Detroit Public School System. Butch retired from Western International High School, where all the students and colleagues loved him.

Butch leaves his legacy and love to cherish the good times and memories his wife of 38 years, Debra; son, Daimen (Donna) Jackson of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; daughter, Selena Chantel (Brandon) West; three grandchildren, Jamarie, Jarame and Jahnay Jackson of Bloomfield Hills; his loving mother, Melvena Dexter Jackson of Bogalusa; mother-in-law, Gloria Allen Johnson of Sun; brothers-in-law, Melvin (Yvonne) Johnson of Sun, David Johnson of Sun and Ray Anthony (Sandra) Johnson of Amite; sisters-in-law, Regina Johnson of Slidell and Sherria Johnson of Covington; three godsisters, Colleen Lynn Nickerson of Detroit, Renee (Desmond) Daniels of Saginaw, Mich., and Sylvia Jackson of Bogalusa; one aunt, Ruth Joyner of Somerset, N.J.; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 27, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the chapel. Viewing will be Saturday, Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. at Mary’s Chapel UMC, with the Rev. Terrence August officiating. Interment will be in the Bogalusa Cemetery.
