Football season is coming down the stretch

The four Washington Parish football teams in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association are heading down the home stretch of the regular season, and the postseason is drawing nearer.

Bogalusa, Franklinton, Pine and Varnado are all attempting to improve their chances for making the playoffs, or put themselves in a better position for a higher seed with each passing week.

Bogalusa is 3-4 this season. The first three losses occurred at the outset of the season to teams that were all ranked in the top 10 of their classification by the Louisiana Press Writers Association.

Bogalusa kept the game close in its last three losses, but last week, the Lumberjacks moved to 2-0 in District 7-3A play with a 32-20 victory over Amite.

Tonight, Bogalusa is hosting Albany.

Franklinton entered the week on a three-game winning streak and was 5-2 overall and 2-0 in District 8-4A play. The Demons’ losses have been to Covington and West Monroe. West Monroe is ranked second in Class 5A by the LSWA.

The Demons played a key district contest last night against Lakeshore (6-1, 1-0 in district).

The game took place after yesterday’s press time. You can find the article on that game in the weekend edition of the Daily News and online.

Pine is on a bye this week, but last week the Raiders picked up their first win of 2015 with a 27-20 overtime victory over Springfield.

The Raiders are 1-6 overall and 1-3 in District 7-2A play, but they’ve been in close in several games.

Varnado is 3-4 overall and 1-1 in District 8-1A play. The Wildcats lost a tough game last week to Covenant Christian Academy, 27-14.

Bowling Green and Ben’s Ford are in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools.

Bowling Green, which finished the regular season last week at 6-3 overall, has a bye this week and awaits Saturday’s playoff brackets.

Ben’s Ford has its final regular season game this week on the road against Central Private. It has been a struggle for the Eagles, who are 1-8 overall and 0-3 in district.

Good luck to all of the teams.
