Barbara Bennett

Barbara K. Bennett, born April 17, 1942, passed away Aug. 14, 2014, at Heritage Manor nursing home in Mandeville At the age of 72. She was a longtime resident of Rio and a member of Palestine Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Kendell W. Carter of Bogalusa and Brent N. (Cathy) Carter of Bogalusa; two daughters, Melanie C. Thomas of Bogalusa and Margaret “Mitzi” L. Bennett of Covington; a sister, Sarah K. Peterson; a brother, T. Wayne Kitchens of Hammond; seven grandchildren, Brent N. Carter Jr., Christina M. Carter of Picayune, Miss., Jonathan K. Carter, Ashlee D. Carter, Miranda E. Carter and Kristina A. Carter of Mississippi; and stepson Dwight Carter. She was preceded in death by parents, W.E. and Lillie Mae Kitchens; a brother, E.T. Kitchens; a sister, Thelma K. Matthews; a daughter, Ina A. Bennett; and two granddaughters, Catelyn Ann Carter and Tasha M. Thomas.

Visitation was held Saturday Aug. 16, 2014, at Palestine Baptist Church starting at 11 a.m. until service time at 2 p.m. The Rev. Fred Brumfield officiated the services, and interment to followed in the Palestine Baptist Church Cemetery.
