‘Do a Good Turn’ daily this year

2013 has gone, and 2014 has arrived. What does the new year have in store for you?

The Daily News saw changes in 2013, and as 2014 arrives the newspaper continues to adapt and adjust in an effort to be the best community newspaper it can be for you, our readers. We start the year off today with our 2014 Kute Kid calendar, brought back this year in a new size and slightly different look after a few years’ absence. And we’ll publish our annual Year in Review section later this month, giving you a chance to look back one more time on the top local stories of 2013.

We hope 2013 was a good year for all of our readers, but we understand that for many it was a tough year, filled with belt-tightening and unforeseen changes.

But that year is over, and as we flip our calendars to 2014 and discuss new year’s resolutions around the office water cooler, we are reminded that a new year can in fact be a new beginning.

A new year’s resolution does not have to be something that is meant to be broken.

The Daily News challenges all of our readers to not only make a resolution this new year, but to make a meaningful resolution and to keep that resolution.

If your resolution is to quit smoking, exercise more or eat better, then follow through on those things and make a serious attempt at taking better care of yourself.

We encourage everyone to not only resolve to take better care of their physical body but to also make an effort this coming year to be a better person to those around you.

The Cub Scouts have a saying — Do a Good Turn Daily. A Good Turn is defined as doing something nice for someone without being asked and without receiving anything in return.

We should all strive this coming year to be more like a Cub Scout, and in 2014 let us all Do a Good Turn Daily, for a better community as a whole. We promise you will not regret it.

Happy New Year; make it a good one!
