James Charley Crain, 93, of Durham, N.C., died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.
He was born in Franklinton on Sept. 6, 1920. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and retired from the American Tobacco Company. He was a charter member of Page Road Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Louise Grice Crain, and his parents, Charles Calvin Crain and Martha Coleman Crain.
He is survived by three daughters, Judy Phillips and Kathy Hicks and husband, Randy, all of Durham, and Mary Ann Henderson and husband, Jeff, of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Phillips, Lt. j.g. Jeremy (Lynsey-Paige) Phillips, USN, Charlie (Michaela) Hicks, Jennifer Hicks, Michael (Bethany) Henderson and Laura Henderson; four great-grandchildren, Cameron Hicks, Brianna Brault, Quinn Hicks and James Henderson; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Hudson Funeral Home on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 4-6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Michael Bond officiating. Entombment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
