St. John Temple to celebrate 89th anniversary

Members of St. John Temple Church are now preparing for the church’s 89th anniversary.

The founding father of the church, Bishop John W. White, in 1924 purchased property at 1126 N. Roosevelt St. in Bogalusa, and the church was erected under his prayerful and wise guidance. He served as the church’s leader until his death in 1985.

Since it began, St. John Temple has had only three pastors: Bishop White, 1924-1985; Bishop Willie K. Gordon, 1985-1997; and the current pastor, Elder Bobby R. Brown, who began his service in 1997.

The officers and members of St. John Temple Church, along with Elder Brown, and his wife, Sister Helen R. Brown, will celebrate the anniversary with a special Homecoming service on Sunday, May 19 at 11:30 a.m. The speaker will be Elder Victor Robinson, pastor of Glorious Church in White Sand, Miss.

During this special service, the church will recognize the oldest living member (longest membership), Sister Elnora M. Dubb.

The general public is invited to attend.
