ROBERTS
Elaine Elizabeth Sheridan Roberts, 54, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013.
She was born in Los Angeles on Sept. 7, 1958, to the late Willie and Everlean Sheridan, the second of four children.
She accepted the lord at a young age and was baptized at Village Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, under the leadership of the late Rev. L.M. Curtis Jr. She attended 109th Street Elementary School, Samuel Gompers Jr. High School and received her diploma from David Starr Jordan High School. She also attended Los Angeles Southwest College.
Elaine was employed at various companies throughout California and Louisiana as a driver, an insurance agent, a repo agent and a seamstress.
She married her husband, Gary Roberts, on July 3, 1982. Together they raised three wonderful children, LaRod, Schmia and Tulani. After they were married four years, they decided to move back to Louisiana. Shortly after arriving in Louisiana, Elaine became an active member of Mary’s Chapel United Methodist Church, helping out with the fundraisers to build the new church and also becoming a member of the senior choir. If they needed any help with anything at church, she never turned them down. She remained a member until her death.
Elaine leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 30 years, Gary Roberts; three children, LaRod (Shondrica) Jones Sr. of Los Angeles, and Schmia (Johnny) Pearson and Tulani Roberts of Varnado; six grandchildren, LaRod Jones Jr., LaNaya Jones, and Aubrey Jones of Los Angeles, and Gary Jones, Rulaina Roberts and Ian Bland of Varnado; two brothers, Robert (Mattie) Smith of New Orleans and Damon Sheridan of Los Angeles; three sisters, Mary Rayford of Angie, Julani Sheridan of Bogalusa and Christine Watson of Los Angeles.
She also leaves four brothers-in-law, Donnie (Doreatha) Roberts Sr. and Hollis (Marietta) Roberts Jr. of Los Angeles, Landis (Margie) Roberts of Angie and Clifton (JoAnn) Roberts of Varnado; three sisters-in-law, Rosia Walls and Debra (Danny) Robinson of Varnado, and Deloris Myers of Angie.
Elaine also leaves four very close “sister like” friends: Claudette Morris, Lucille Carter, Sarah Jefferson and Cassandra Taylor. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Wylet Sheridan; her father-in-law, Hollis Robert Sr.; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Walls Sr.; and a very special friend, Joan “Kit” Foster.
