Velva Ann Fortenberry

Velva Ann Fortenberry, 60, a resident of Franklinton, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Riverside Medical Center.

She was born in Tylertown, Miss., on Sept. 7, 1952. She was an educator in the Washington Parish School System for 30 years, but kept busy working in her yard since retirement. She enjoyed the time spent in the company of friends and family. More recently she fought battles with heart disease and cancer but never gave up hope of getting better. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her sister, Iris (Donald) Fornea of Angie; two nephews, Brett Fornea of Stateline and Seth Fornea of Raleigh, N.C.; two nieces, Tiffanie Fornea of Covington and Rebel Fornea of Raleigh; two great-nephews, Cole and Blake Fornea; and several aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burrell W. Fortenberry and Iris Stinson Fortenberry; and grandparents, Letie Stinson and Della Dillon Stinson, and Burrell H. Fortenberry and Ossie Magee Fortenberry.

Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 28 at Crain Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. A private family burial will take place afterwards at Rushing Cemetery in Tylertown.
