Myrtle Lea Givens Bateman

Myrtle Lea Givens Bateman, 91, a resident of Royce City, Texas born Aug. 16, 1920, died Friday, July 27, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at the Royce City Health and Rehab Center. She was a native and longtime resident of Mt. Hermon who had resided in Texas for the past six years.

She was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and she enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy Triola of Mt. Hermon and Paulette and Kenneth Owen of Campbell, Texas; two grandchildren and spouses, Paige and Mark Benson of Hawthorne, Fla. and Brian and Donna Triola of Florence, Texas; a great-grandson, Jacob Cole Triola; a sister, Geraldine “Cricket” Laurent of Pasadena, Texas; and a brother, William Purcell “Whistler” Givens of Osyka, Miss.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson “Pete” Bateman; sons-in-law, Anthony Triola and William Burden; and her parents, Norman Iva Givens and Allie Smith Givens.

Visitation was held Monday, July 30 at Crain Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m., with Dr. Joe Baugh and Rev. Micah Rutland officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
