Mayor Tyrin Truong has announced on FaceBook the formation of a selection committee to choose the next Chief of the Bogalusa Police Department on June 6.

He said, “I have formed a selection committee comprised of a diverse group of citizens. These citizens will be tasked with helping choose a candidate who reflects the values the community would like to see. This is our moment to reset the department and build an operation that protects and serves our citizens with community input.”

Willis Yarbrough is the former Assistant Police Chief for the city of Bogalusa.

Dodi Browett, who is listed as being in a relationship with Public Works Director James Patterson on FaceBook.

Reverend E.L. Powell, Director of New Triumph Missionary Baptist Church

Khilia Daniels, Director of Youth Violence Prevention non-profit.

Fate Ferrell, community activist and former publisher of The Hard Copy, a community underground news organization.

Rick Corsetti, community activist.

Ferrell and Corsetti are regular attendees of public city council meetings. Ferrell speaks at almost every meeting, often imploring the council to work with Mayor Truong and chastising council members for their lack of transparency. Corsetti was asked to leave the last council meeting for verbally attacking members of the city council.

Daniels is an outspoken member of the community who supports initiatives to quell youth gun violence in the city.

Yarbrough is the only member of the committee with actual law enforcement experience, having retired from the Bogalusa Police Department.

The committee has six members, which could potentially lead to a tied vote.

The candidates for police chief are Troy Tervalon, who is currently serving as Acting Assistant Chief of the department, Michael Bracey, James Smith, and Kenneth Scott.
