ANGIE, LA. – Varnado High School senior Lauryn Smith has been recognized as a finalist for the prestigious 2024 Louisiana Students of the Year award. Smith represents Region 6, standing out among her peers across Washington Parish and the state.
The Louisiana Department of Education announced the finalists on Wednesday, spotlighting the top students from various regions. The competition acknowledges outstanding 5th, 8th, and 12th graders who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, character, and community service.
Lauryn Smith’s selection is a significant accomplishment, reflecting her dedication and impact at Varnado High. As one of the 24 finalists, she embodies the qualities of a model student with her strong academic record and active involvement in school and community initiatives.
The finalists will gather for the final round of the competition on April 10 at the River Center Branch Library in Baton Rouge. The event will culminate in an awards ceremony where the state winners for each grade level will be announced.
