BOGALUSA, La. – In a significant move to combat underage drinking, the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the Bogalusa Police Department on February 28, 2024, launching a decisive crackdown within the area.

Dubbed the Juvenile Underage Drinking Enforcement (JUDE) initiative, the combined operation targeted 13 local establishments suspected of selling alcohol to minors. Officials reported that nine of these businesses adhered to legal standards, denying alcohol to underage individuals.

Sheriff Randy “Country” Seal commended the compliant vendors, highlighting their role in fostering community safety and adhering to laws designed to protect youths. Notable among these compliant establishments were Bogalusa Powerball, C Store, Discount Store #2, General Dollar Store on Avenue F, the Bogalusa CVS, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, JZ Quick Stop, and Varnado Texaco.

Conversely, four businesses failed to meet the legal requirements, selling alcohol to underage patrons. Authorities identified the non-compliant entities as Chevron on Marshall Richardson Road, Chevron in Varnado, Main Street Grocery, and JR Food Mart.

The operation marks a concerted effort by local law enforcement to clamp down on illegal alcohol sales to minors, safeguarding the community’s younger members and promoting responsible business practices.
