FRANKLINTON, La. – The Franklinton Police Department has issued a cautionary notice regarding a recent scam targeting businesses in the area. According to reports received by the department, individuals have been contacting businesses and instructing store managers or employees to divert their nightly deposits to alternative locations. This fraudulent activity has been observed not only in Franklinton but also in neighboring areas, including stores in Mississippi.

Business owners are urged to remain vigilant and to advise their employees about this scam to prevent potential financial losses. Authorities advise businesses to exercise caution when receiving instructions regarding financial transactions, especially those involving changes in deposit procedures or requests to divert funds to unfamiliar locations. Establishing protocols for verifying the legitimacy of such instructions is recommended to mitigate the risk of falling victim to these scams.
