Mattie Magee Gholar was born on October 29, 1925, to the late John and Emily Warren Magee.

She joined New Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age. She was married to Lawrence Taylor, and through this union were born with 3 sons, Veal and Wilson Taylor from Franklinton, LA, and Curtis Taylor from New Orleans, LA. Met and Married the late Ester Gholar. She lived in New Orleans until 2005 (Katrina)

On December 5, 2023, at 98, Mattie Gholar Received her wings and flew through Heaven’s Gates.

Her memory will be cherished by her son Wilson Taylor (Toni Je); four sisters, Lillian (Oscar) Bickham of Dallas, TX, Mildred Wintee, Freddie Taylor, Iona Quinn of New Orleans, LA; two grandchildren, Dewight (Tracey) Taylor of New Orleans, LA and Tonia Leach of Clinton, MS; six great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Ulia Gray and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emily Warren Magee and her late husband, Ester Gholar; two sons, Curtis and Verl Taylor; five brothers, Coleman James, Gene Paul, Roosevelt, Johnny B. Magee; two sisters, Hattie Magee and Dornishey Wynn; three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with Rev.
