Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Martha Marilyn Warner (McKenzie) our beloved Mother and MeeMaw, passed away peacefully under the loving care of her family on August 23, 2023, at the age of 82.  She is preceded in heaven by her parents. Marilyn, known to everyone as “MeeMaw”, was born in Varnado, LA on June 9, 1941, to parents Virgie Inez (Williams) and Clyde Arlis Warner. She was raised in Varnado and graduated from Varnado High School in 1959. Our sweet MeeMaw never met a stranger, nor did she ever have an unkind word to say about anyone. She was extremely passionate about her beloved Houston Astros and talked about the players as if they were her own children. She loved to shop online and watch cooking shows with her great grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, listening to southern gospel music, knew every George Strait song and was most proud to be an American. MeeMaw’s entire world revolved around her family including, her three children, Leslie Smith and husband Donald, Jerri Ellen Yancey and husband Weldon, Prentis Laird and wife Elizabeth, and her “bonus daughter” Christie Cottington and husband Jeff. She adored her 11 grandchildren, April Lorance (Eddie), Dustin Smith (Katrina), Courtney Evans, Miranda Yancey (Gene), Shane Evans (Jessica), Caitlyn Suttle, Tyler Suttle (Nikki), Kyle Suttle, Michael Laird (Danielle), Kathryn Laird, and Kelsey Overstreet (Mikey) along with her 17 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Kenneth Warner of Folsom, LA, and Royce Warner and wife Marika of Hattiesburg, MS. along with a host of extended family and friends. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life gathering at the League City Community Center at 400 South Kansas Ave, League City, Texas on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 11am to 2pm local time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
