Dr. David Leon Womack, of Baton Rouge, LA, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, pastor and servant of the Lord.  He passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at the age of 79.  Dr. Womack was born on June 25, 1944 to John and Serena (Wax) Womack.  Dr. Womack was a 1962 graduate of Istrouma High School , Louisiana College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lois Janet Miller Womack and his daughter Angela Womack Jones (Ashland), his beloved granddaughter, Jillian Angeland Jones, sisters-in-law Bettye Creed, Gwen Willis, Marian Landry, Tracy Miller and Vicki Holmes, a brother-in-law, Gerard Landry, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Virginia Lemley (Jim), Betty Breeden (Jim), Elaine Dawson (Nelson), and John Andrew Womack (Terry), and his in-laws Walter and Janice Tyler Miller.  Dr. Womack was born with a servant’s heart and was joyfully ordained to the ministry on June 25, 1967.  He served as pastor to many congregations including Trinity Baptist Church of Germany, Sunlight Baptist Church of Franklinton, LA, Westside Emmanuel of Bogalusa, LA and Sherwood Baptist of Baton Rouge, LA from which he retired in 2012.  Additionally, he served as Chaplain to Louisiana State Police for 16 years and served on the executive board of the Louisiana Baptist Convention.  He spent his leisure time enjoying his camp on the Amite River, boating, fishing and spending time with friends and family.  Visitation Monday, August 21, 2023 beginning at 9:00 AM until service at 11:00 AM conducted by Reverend Ron Lambe at Istrouma Baptist Church, 10500 Sam Rushing Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70816.  “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel…” Mark 16:15
