Two Arrested in Connection to Bogalusa Drive-By Shooting

Bogalusa Police Department confirmed on Monday, August 14, 2023, that they have apprehended the suspects responsible for the recent drive-by shooting that occurred on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

Mason Turner, 19 years old, was taken into custody as the alleged driver of the vehicle involved in the drive-by shooting. The second suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile whose identity is being protected due to legal restrictions, is believed to be the shooter.

The investigation revealed that Turner was operating the vehicle during the drive-by shooting, while the juvenile suspect allegedly carried out the shooting. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.

Turner has been charged with being an accessory to attempted first-degree murder, accessory to assault by drive-by shooting, and contributing to juvenile delinquency. The juvenile suspect faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, assault by drive-by shooting, and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile.

Authorities had responded to reports of shots fired near West 5th Street on August 10, 2023. The Bogalusa Police Department promptly initiated an investigation into the matter, securing the scene and working to gather information.

In a previous statement issued on the day of the incident, the Bogalusa Police Department had addressed concerns about the reports of an active shooter. Authorities clarified that there was no basis or evidence to support those reports, emphasizing that the situation was not indicative of an ongoing threat to the public. At that time, no victims or suspects had been identified.
