Robert Wyatt Smith, Jr., aged 69, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2023, after a long, brave battle with leukemia, with his wife of 30 years, Lynda J. Nugent Smith, at his side.
“Bobby” was born in Natchez, MS on October 12, 1953. He grew up in Bogalusa, LA with three siblings: Tommy Smith (Terri), Carolyn Smith Davis (Tim) and Jimmy Smith (Mona). He was the son of Robert Sr. (deceased) and June Rose Branton (deceased). He attended LSU in Baton Rouge before moving to Houston to work for Schlumberger in the oil and gas industry. He later moved to Los Gatos, CA for several years, working first in the oil industry and later in technology. On a visit home in late 1990, he was introduced to his wife, Lynda. They married in 1993, living together in Kenner and Metairie over the years. He utilized his technology background to market and design websites in support of his wife’s real estate business. He considered her three children as his own: Todd C. Nugent (Ann) of Richmond, VA, Lesha Nugent Freeland (Michael) and Chad J. Nugent (Jennifer) both residents of Metairie. Combined they were blessed with total of ten grandchildren: Christopher, Joshua, and Sean (Caroline) Freeland, Nicole Torres (Wes), Sarah and Emily Nugent, Kate Scott, and Carter, Andrew, and Kyle Nugent. He is also survived by three nephews and a niece. He was a gentle soul with a quiet demeanor, ready smile, and a sharp intellect. His passions included LSU sports, the Boston Red Sox and his faithful dog, Molly, a Wheaton terrier.
The family thanks Dr. Leonard Clark Alsfeld at Ochsner’s Benson Center for his kindness and support on this journey.
