In collaboration with Leader Dogs for the Blind, the Bogalusa Lion’s Club has collected $4,000 in donations to provide service dogs for blind individuals.

The Bogalusa Lion’s Club donates to Leader Dogs for the Blind once a year, according to Jane Carr, the secretary for the Bogalusa Lion’s Club.

Leader Dogs for the Blind was founded in 1939 by members of Lions Club International. Ever since its founding, Lions have been supporters of the organization.

According to the Leader Dogs website, “Over 4,900 Lions clubs both nationally and internationally contribute financially to Leader Dog.”

In Bogalusa, each $500 collected in donations is represented by a puppy stuffed animal, which also represents one real leader dog to help the blind.

More information on Leader Dogs for the Blind can be found on their website, leaderdogs.org.

The Bogalusa Lion’s Club meets every first and third Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
