WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) on June 20 announced Louisiana will receive a total of $13,688,241.00 for high-speed affordable internet infrastructure from his Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The grant will fund the construction of 822 miles of fiber optic and cellular broadband cable.

“For Louisiana to reach its potential, every small business, student, and worker in our state needs access to high-speed internet,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This investment helps bring that access to everyone.”

While negotiating the bill, Cassidy pushed for a fair broadband formula that would benefit Louisiana’s needs and ensure the funding was directed to areas that lacked access to high-speed internet. The formula will be based on the number of unserved and underserved broadband recipients in each state as determined by new internet coverage maps expected to be completed by the FCC later this year. Louisiana is expected to receive over a billion dollars in total broadband funding from the infrastructure law.
