Lourigan named Mt. Hermon School Student of the Month for May

Mt. Hermon High School’s May student of the month, Darci Lourigan, is the daughter of Jeff and Sabrina Thomas and Steven and Susan Lourigan. She is the granddaughter of Ronnie Welch and Thomas Welch Jr., Helen Thomas, Elaine and David DeWeese, and Mary Lourigan.
Darci is 18 years old and has attended Mt. Hermon School since Pre-K. Throughout her academic career, Darci has maintained a 4.0 grade point average and will graduate with nine college credit hours through the school dual enrollment program with Southeastern Louisiana University. She will earn another three credit hours through her time with the Southeastern Upward Bound program, which she has been a member of since the ninth grade. She has represented MHS at Southeastern Louisiana University’s District Literary Rally, placing for state in Chemistry. Darci has also received many awards and honors through the school, with her most recent being named the Mt. Hermon Student of the year for 2023. Throughout her high school career, she has been awarded the Academic Achievement Award and The Taylor Award all four years, Academic Excellence in Environmental Science and English II, and has been awarded for Mastery on both Geometry and American History LEAP.
While attending Mt. Hermon School, Darci has been active within her school’s extracurricular activities. She has been a member of the MHS cheer team since Kindergarten, where she began as a Little Stinger, and worked her way up to serving as captain of the varsity team for the 2022-2023 season. For the last five years, she has also served as the photographer of the MHS baseball team, and this year spent the season serving as their statistician. The last two years, Darci has assisted as a photographer of MHS, where she has had some of her photos displayed in the yearbook at the end of each year. She has been a consistent and active member in Mt. Hermon’s clubs, such as Junior and Senior Beta, Junior and Senior 4-H, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, Washington Parish Youth Coalition, and lastly, the Southeastern Upward Bound program. In these clubs, Darci currently serves as the Photographer of Senior Beta, Vice President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as well as Senior 4-H. As a member of these clubs, Darci has had the opportunity to serve the community by donating canned goods to local food drives, serving senior citizens Christmas dinner, placing flags on local Veterans’ graves, as well as participating in the Veteran’s Day program at the school for the last two years. She has also been a member of the Talented Art Program since the 7th grade, where she has also received numerous awards for not only her art, but also her writings, at the Washington Parish Free Fair.
Outside of all the time she spends at Mt. Hermon, Darci is a member of the Bogue Chitto Baptist Church, where she is a member of the youth group. This summer, Darci will take the opportunity to bridge with the Southeastern Upward Bound Program, and begin her journey in receiving a degree in Sports Communications to later pursue a career in sports broadcasting.
