WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, released the following statement on the Biden Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new rules for power plants:

“The Biden administration’s revival of the Clean Power Plan—which the Supreme Court found to be unconstitutional—is a threat to reliable and affordable U.S. energy,” said Dr. Cassidy. “It is also a threat to American and Louisiana jobs.”

Background

In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in West Virginia v. EPA that President Obama’s Clean Power Plan which sought to administratively determine power sector emission levels exceeded executive authority under the Clean Air Act.

In response to the Biden administration’s assault on domestic energy, Dr. Cassidy released a landmark energy & climate policy outline earlier this year detailing how the U.S. can successfully reset our energy and climate policy. The outline included Cassidy’s plan for Operation Warp Speed for U.S. energy production to cut permitting red tape and unleash U.S. energy.
