BATON ROUGE, LA – Senate Majority Leader and Candidate for Governor Sharon Hewitt spoke with the Oil & Gas Industry at the Energize The Vote Governor’s Forum today. Candidate Hewitt was able to highlight her experience in the industry, from being among the first women to work on a drilling rig to her time serving as a top executive at Shell.

Senator Hewitt has worked hard to support the industry by working with the Congressional delegation to bring a greater share of GOMESA royalties back to Louisiana and by advocating for lower severance taxes. Senator Hewitt has promised to end the frivolous coastal lawsuits, supported by Jeff Landry, that are driving the oil & gas industry out of Louisiana.

“The Oil & Gas Industry is the lifeblood of Louisiana. I want our children and grandchildren to have the same opportunities I did to be successful in the industry. That is why I have passed more legislation than any other candidate that prepares our students for the energy jobs of tomorrow”

While in office, Senate Majority Leader Sharon Hewitt’s legislation has focused on strengthening STEM education and investing state funding in higher education for new energy technologies. She looks forward to the opportunity to continue her role as the “Louisiana Leader in Education” as the next governor.
