Varnado’s Washington headed to Dillard

Varnado’s Zamoriyon Washington has chosen Dillard University in New Orleans.
“Mostly when I went on a visit, it felt like home,” Washington said. “The coach welcomed me. He made me feel real comfortable on the visit. He let me eat the food and walk around the campus. As soon as I stepped on campus, I felt like I was meant to be here.”
Washington was accepted to 51 schools and was offered a combined total of $708,285 in scholarships with those schools.
Washington is getting an academic and athletic scholarship for Dillard. The athletic scholarship is for track/field. Washington played football and is on the track/field team at Varnado.
Washington got to meet the track/field team. With the track/field team, Washington will run the 100 meters and 200 and he will be on the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams.
“It seemed very family oriented,” Washington said. “It seemed like a great bond.”
Washington said he is very excited about his decision.
“I start in January. I know that when I get there, it’ll be around track season,” Washington said. “I’m thankful to God to even let me participate in the sport that I love in college.”
After high school, Washington is going to basic training for the National Guard. He will start in June. Washington is going to AIT.
Washington is going to major in engineering and he will do an internship in the summer of 2024.
Washington thanked God, his mother Ruby Washington and all of the angels that are with him now.
