An ecumenical group of Bogalusa and surrounding areas faith communities gathered for a Public Way of the Cross Walk on Good Friday, April 7.
Before the event, Second Missionary Baptist Church in Bogalusa Pastor Darrel Self led them into prayer.
The public was invited to participate in the Way of the Cross Walk. Volunteers carried a cross representing Christ’s journey to Calvary. The group began the walk in front of the Bogalusa City Hall at Arkansas Avenue and Memphis Street. The parade route proceeded on Arkansas Avenue to Austin Street, Austin Street to Church Street and Church Street to Poplas Street. The walk ended at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church with participants praying for hope for our city.
Before they got to the church, there were two crosses, one of the left and one right. One cross represented the redeemed and the other the unredeemed. The cross they were carrying represented the redeemer, who is Jesus. After that, Pastor Willie C. Gallager gathered everyone for the meaning of Good Friday and gave a presentation on that. After the presentation, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Bogalusa Pastor Stanley Nathaniel offered prayer.
Pastor Gallager and the members of Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church were the organizers of this community event.
