Owen Alexander McCain is a senior at Bogalusa High School. He was born on March 14, 2005. He is the son of Gavin and Luella McCain. He has one older sister, Katherine, who is a student at Southeastern Louisiana University. He also has a little sister, Gina, that attends Bogalusa High School. He is the grandson of Audrey McCain and also the grandson of Emmett Guy, Sr.
Owen has been a BHS JROTC Cadet for four years where he has held the positions of private, corporal, platoon leader, first sergeant and gained the rank of captain. Through this program, he has provided community service at the Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival, Pearl Harbor Breakfast, Christmas in the Park and many other events. He has also had the opportunity to march in some parades, such as the Washington Parish Free Fair Parade and the Magic City Carnival Association Parade. He has participated in the JROTC Military Ball for three years. He was the recipient of the JROTC Cadet of the Year award in his freshman year. He has loved being in JROTC and has gained much from being part of this program. As a junior, he received an award from the Veterans of the Foreign Wars. This year, Owen was selected as Most Likely to Succeed by his classmates. He has taken advanced robotics and is currently enrolled in advanced engineering. He has received certifications for Carpentry I and II through Northshore Community Technical College.
One thing that Owen enjoys doing outside of school is reading. He could probably sit with a book and read for hours and hours. He also likes to go out into the community and help the elderly do work around their houses. He saves the money he earns to buy important things for school or if he sees something he really wants to buy for himself. He also enjoys visiting and spending time with family. Owen attends Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he sings with the youth worship team.
Owen is undecided about his future plans, but he has several options. He would like to go to Southeastern Louisiana University to earn a civil engineering degree. He has also thought about attending Northshore Technical Community College for carpentry. If these plans do not work out, he has considered enlisting into the United States Army or the Marines, where he would become the best leader that he could be and make his country proud as well. He knows he has had a lot of challenges in the past and may have roadblocks ahead as he gets to his final decision for his future. He hopes to become a successful leader and leave a lot of things to leave behind to the next generation that follows.
