Last weekend Bogalusa YMCA held its first ever NASA ASTRO CAMP recognition ceremony for students that have began its groundbreaking pilot program!
This program is a first ever of its kind in the nation! It is geared in a year round curriculum that will progress in three month increments including “To the Moon”, “Life in the Moon”, and “Returning Home”.
This collaborative partnership with NASA brought representatives that presented campers with certificates and mission patches that will be displayed in the Stennis Space Center.
“We reached out to Rebekah Yarbrough-NASA ASTRO CAMP curriculum education specialist-SMD-Science Activation-Science Mission Director, told her what our needs were, and an amazing collaboration was born! She cultivated this collaboration, including the training of our sent representative for instructor positions and creation of our “live binder”. We also now have an in house certified Camp Facilitator George Corkern.” says CEO of the Bogalusa YMCA Toni St Philip. “This program has expanded far beyond the walls of our community and Bogalusa, along with the YMCA getting such national attention can only bring even greater things to our facility!”
