The first movie I remember seeing was about a man who entered a weight lifting competition. Everyone laughed at him because he was not muscular. This man had friends who were chemists. They invented a formula to give him super-strength. Even though he was weak, he became strong. We all look for a super transformation in our lives. We want to have the remedy in our lives, but sometimes we forget that when we are in our weakest, we see God at his strongest.
One of the most misused verses is Philippians 4:13. It is a great verse, but it is not a verse about God helping you to do your strengths. It is not about God helping you hit home runs, but helping you when you strike out.
Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 2:9-10, “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’ Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, catastrophes, persecutions, and in pressures, because of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
When we learn to depend on God that is when we really learn that the Lord can be our strength in our weaknesses. God uses us much more when we are weak. What causes us to be weak? Where does the power of God want to be shown in our life? Before God can use you, he will break you first. He will teach you that it is not about you at all; it is about God. You will see more of God than you ever have in your life. Every miracle in the Bible started out as a problem.
Through weaknesses, we see Christ’s power and His strength and we learn more about Christ than strength.
