With weed eaters, lawn mowers, rakes, and cleaning supplies in hand, members of Oushola Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently descended on Ponemah Cemetery to groom long neglected gravesites.
As a work project to commemorate the Society’s National Day of Service on Tuesday, Oct. 11, the chapter also gathered community volunteers to help in this endeavor.
Regent Denise Cummings expressed regret that the group was not able to cover the entire cemetery, but was pleased with the outcome as a first time event. Chapter Registrar Lynne Alexander encouraged others with a few hours to spare to find a project, no matter how small, that might be beneficial to our city.
By early afternoon, black plastic trash bags stood where weeds and tall grass had occupied the space earlier in the day. All who participated were committed to returning soon to continue the clean up.
