The Bogalusa Help Center had its beginning about 35 years ago with the missions of local churches taking turns each month to provide food for those in need.

Director Gene Hayman said, “We are blessed through all these years to have wonderful friends which made Thanksgiving every day of the year.”

He said that the Fund for Bogalusa is an important group who cares for others and has been so great to make funds available throughout the years for the center’s special projects.

“We moved to this building about 21 years ago and their board of directors has always been ready to help,” Hayman said. “The last few years have been troublesome to all of us and we had to begin this outside drive-thru for those qualified picking up their food every month. It’s not as personal, but it works.”

Hayman said that the center has needed to resurface and expand the area, and the Fund for Bogalusa donation will help with that.
