Library’s ‘Summer Reading Program’ kicks off next week

All four branches of the Washington Parish Library will be hosting events for the Summer Reading Program.

The theme of this year’s program is “Oceans of Possibilities.” On top of fun events the whole family can enjoy, check your local branch for fun crafts to take home or awesome books to read. Adults are even invited to join the fun with the 2022 Adult Summer Reading “BINGO” cards.

All ages are welcome to join the fun of the Summer Reading events.

Zoo2U will visit each branch to kick of the festivities next week. The children will have the opportunity to touch many animals and learn about their care and feeding.

  • Tuesday, May 31 — 10 a.m. at the Bogalusa Branch and 2 p.m. at the Franklinton Branch.
  • Wednesday, June 1 — 2 p.m. at the Enon Branch.
  • Thursday, June 2 — 2 p.m. at the Thomas Branch.

On Wednesday, June 8, at 10 a.m. at the Bogalusa Branch, there will be “Perfectly You” with author Katie Breland Hughes and illustrator Gracie Willis.

On Thursday, June 9, at 10 a.m. at the Franklinton Branch, there will be a visit from the Washington Parish Fire Department.

The next system-wide activity will be Ariane Trammell, author and illustrator. That event will be at the following times:

  • Wednesday, June 15 — 10 a.m. at the Bogalusa Branch and 2 p.m. at the Enon Branch.
  • Thursday, June 16 — 10 a.m. at the Franklinton Branch and 2 p.m. at the Thomas Branch.

On Saturday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bogalusa Branch, there will be “Cinema Saturday.”

The following week will be “Gal Holiday: A Tour of Americana Music.”

  • Wednesday, June 22, 10 a.m. at the Bogalusa Branch and 2 p.m. at the Enon Branch.
  • Thursday, June 23, 10 a.m. at the Franklinton Branch and 2 p.m. at the Thomas Branch.

Next will be “Komenka: Dances of the World.”

  • Wednesday, June 29, 10 a.m. at the Bogalusa Branch and 2 p.m. at the Enon Branch.
  • Thursday, June 30, 10 a.m. at the Franklinton Branch and 2 p.m. at the Thomas Branch.

On Wednesday, July 6, at 10 a.m. at the Bogalusa Branch, there will be “Puppet Theater.” On Thursday, July 7, at 10 a.m. at the Franklinton Branch, there will be a visit from the Rayburn Correctional K-9 Unit.

The Summer Reading Program will hold its graduate in mid-July.

  • Wednesday, July 13, 10 a.m. at the Bogalusa Branch and 2 p.m. at the Enon Branch.
  • Thursday, July 14, 10 a.m. at the Franklinton Branch and 2 p.m. at the Thomas Branch.

Other activities planned in July include the following:

  • Cinema Saturday — Saturday, July 16, 10:30 a.m. the Bogalusa Branch.
  • Teen Night — Tuesday, July 19, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Bogalusa Branch.
  • Summer Movie: Moana — Wednesday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at the Enon Branch.
  • Teen Gaming Night: Among Us Submerged — Thursday, July 21, at the Franklinton Branch.
  • Summer Movie: The Reef — Wednesday, July 27, at 2 p.m. at the Enon Branch.
