International Harvester Collectors show
The International Harvester Collectors Louisiana Chapter 31 will have its antique tractor, engine and truck state show on Saturday, May 7, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds in Franklinton. The featured equipment will be IH, but all makes are welcome. This is a tractor and engine swap meet — bring your parts for sale. Don’t miss the live corn shucking and grinding demonstrations, tractor games, kiddie tractor pull and other activities including skillet throw (ladies only), Blindman’s Bluff, barrel roll and slow race. Concessions will be available. There will be lots of arts and crafts booths available, and a Chapter 31 membership drive will be held. Parish Republican Women
The Washington Parish Republican Women’s monthly meeting will be held Wednesday, May 11, at Maria’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. The business meeting will begin at noon with guest speaker Daniel Erspamer from the Pelican Institute for Public Policy. With limited seating, reservations must be made prior to Wednesday, May 11. Call any member of the club to reserve your seat. Social distancing will continue to be observed.
Bogalusa Balloon Festival
The Bogalusa Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission will be presenting the “Bogalusa Balloon Festival” from Friday, May 20, through Sunday, May 22, at George R. Carr Memorial Airfield, located at 401 Walker St. in Bogalusa. There will also be a bonus carnival night on Thursday, May 19. There will be vendors, food, live music, a carnival, balloon glows and flights, and tethered balloon rides (conditions permitting). Friday will be a VIP only event with The Band Epic. Weekend VIP tickets include other amenities for $100. General admission tickets are $5 for one day, $7 for two days. Children 12 and under receive free admission. Pre-register to volunteer for a balloon crew; volunteers are needed. Sponsors are still being accepted. Blood drive for Sydney Schuler
A Southeast Louisiana Home Health Replacement Blood Drive for Sydney Schuler will be held Thursday, May 19, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Bloodmobile, which will be parked at 433 Plaza St. in Bogalusa. A monetary donation will be made by The Blood Center for each person who donates. Masks are now optional. Eat a good meal before donating, and bring your idea. Open Road Cruisers
The Open Road Cruisers monthly “Cruise-In” will be held the second Thursday night of each month, from March through August, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the parking lot of Zesto’s Drive-In, located at 100 Richmond St. in Bogalusa. YouthBuild Bogalusa
YouthBuild Bogalusa (YBB) is enrolling students for its program. To gain entry in the program, a student will need to be between the ages of 16-24, and have not graduated from high school or earned his or her HISET. The new applicant will take the TABE placement test, in order to gain entry in the program. There will be testing for placement, Monday through Thursday every week from 9 a.m. until noon. YBB offers opportunities in educational aid in passing the HISET, Carpentry Skills (NCCER Certification/OSHA 30), mentoring, AmeriCorps (educational stipend/award), CNA, and welding, along with life skills (community involvement/leadership skills). YBB provides monetary incentives to learn — up to $500 every two weeks. YBB also has a full-time Case Manager and Counselor on staff.
