The Health Ahead/Heart Smart Children’s Health Program recently updated its school curriculum guides for grades K-6 with help from the International Paper Bogalusa Mill.
The Heart Smart Program received a $10,000 IP Foundation grant for its school program.
Eleven schools participating in the program received funding to purchase supplies, materials and equipment to enhance lessons in the guides. The program is based on data from the Bogalusa Heart Study, under the direction of the late Dr. Gerald Berenson.
Bernie Chascin (Mill Manager), Kalisa Hyman (Communications Manager), and the mill have supported the Health Ahead/Heart Smart Children’s Health Program since 2015.
