Devin James Gonzales, 31, passed away at his home on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022.
Devin was a member of Poplarville (Miss.) High School’s class of 2008, graduating with high honors. He then went to Millsaps College, winning his first National Football Championship in 2009.
Devin was also an accomplished missionary through Bethel Baptist Church. He made many trips to other countries to spread the good news of the gospel.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Buffy (Wayne) Mizell; his father, Spike (Pam) Gonzales; a sister, Elizabeth Hope Amacker; three brothers, Blake Nielsen, Dustin Carson and Logan Gonzales; grandmother, Linda “Nana” Jenkins; and great-grandmother, Wanda Knight. He also leaves behind his stepfather, Edward “Butch” Amacker.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and grandmother, David and Mildred Samford; and his paternal great-grandparents Milton and April Knight.
A light to all he encountered, Devin’s presence here on Earth will be missed sorely. We rejoice that his battle is now over and he has peace. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend services on Saturday, March 5, at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home in Bogalusa. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Scott Kimball officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Ponemah Cemetery in Bogalusa.
