Edward “Butch” Singletary passed away peacefully at his residence in Bogalusa on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, at the age of 79. He was born in Bogalusa on Jan. 19, 1942, to Frank and Elouise Singletary.

Butch was a long-time resident of Bogalusa. He was honored to have retired as a Captain from the Bogalusa Fire Department. He was a former president of the Bogalusa Sports Association. Butch cherished the years he spent as a little league coach and was always telling stories about those days. In his younger days and into his teenage and adult years, he spent many days and nights hunting and fishing in the Pearl River Swamp and it has been said he knew that area better than most. He was an avid fox hunter for many years as well, going all over the country attending field trials.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Kathy Singletary; his children, Darryl (Susan) Singletary, Richard (Melissa) Singletary, and Shawn (Jennifer) Singletary; two sisters, Barbara Applewhite and Sybil (Rory) Beall; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two nieces, numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins and his beloved dog Toby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elouise Singletary; his daughter, Robin Mitchell Scallon; his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Patt Frisby; four nephews, Robbie and Joey Applewhite, and Adam and Craig Courtney; a great-granddaughter, McKinly Anna Lou Singletary; and two beloved pets, Ol’ Joe and Boomer.

A celebration of his life will be held at the First Pentecostal Church of Bogalusa on Saturday, Nov. 13. It will begin at 2 p.m. and continue until the memorial service begins at 3 p.m.
