Hurricane Ida was one sudden and hard-hitting storm. Many were left devastated and struggling in this new reality. Homes were without power and running water for weeks, and some are still waiting. Several people could not even rely on a generator. There were several whose homes were destroyed and flooded. Fallen trees and debris covered nearly each roadway.

Students and community members decided to take initiative. Community members gave donations to our fellow Louisiana residents to help lighten the burden left by Hurricane Ida. Franklinton High School’s National Honor Society has organized a donation drive to assist residents. Items were given to the United Houma Nation. The United Houma Nation is a nonprofit organization that donates to the community. The organization today is presented with the unique challenges of preserving and maintaining culture as the land is disappearing from underneath our feet.

FHS National Honor Society members were generous enough to donate supplies and nonperishables to those who were less fortunate during this storm. There were over a hundred supplies given to the community.

In an attempt to help those with damaged homes, the community of Franklinton donated work gloves, snacks, personal hygiene items, and plenty of cleaning supplies. All in all, this donation drive was successful in aiding those in need.
