The National Weather Service officially issued a hurricane warning for Washington Parish, at approximately 4:12 p.m. Friday.

The parish had already been under a hurricane watch. A hurricane warning means that hurricane-force winds are expected “somewhere within this area” within the next 36 hours.

The hurricane warning area covers most of southeastern Louisiana.
