State reports 110 new deaths in Wednesday report

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) reported more than 100 COVID-19 deaths for the second straight day, according to the LDH’s update released Wednesday at noon.
The state reported 110 deaths Wednesday, bringing the total to 12,226 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in March of 2020. There were 139 new deaths reported Tuesday, and 59 reported Monday.
The LDH said there were 6,619 new cases in Wednesday’s report, bringing the total cases reported since the start of the pandemic to 671,237. There were 3,814 new cases reported Tuesday.
Also Wednesday, the LDH reported that there were 2,844 COVID patients in hospitals, and 472 of those patients were on ventilators. In Tuesday’s report, there were 2,856 hospitalizations and 480 ventilators in use.
LDH officials also reported that non-fully-vaccinated residents made up 90 percent of the cases reported from Aug. 12 through Aug. 18, and 81 percent of the deaths in that same time period. In addition, 91 percent of current COVID hospitalizations are patients who are not fully vaccinated, according to the LDH.
Since the start of the pandemic, Washington Parish has reported 6,877 cases and 170 deaths.
