Officials said Wednesday morning that Tropical Storm Grace will likely strengthen to a hurricane as it makes landfall, but its projected path will not likely majorly impact the United States.

According to information from the Weather Forecast Office in New Orleans/Baton Rouge, the storm’s projected path has it traveling westward across the Caribbean and over the Yucatan peninsula and other parts of Mexico.

The storm will likely strengthen to a hurricane when it makes landfall in the Yucatan on Thursday morning, officials said. As of Wednesday morning, Grace had maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and was moving at 16 mph.

Grace is projected to pass through the Yucatan on Friday, traveling through the Bay of Campeche before making landfall again in central Mexico early Saturday morning.

No direct impacts to Louisiana are currently expected, officials said.
