Southeastern Louisiana University is participating in a new incentive program for its students to get vaccinated. Gov. John Bel Edwards and the Louisiana Department of Health recently announced “Shot For $100,” Louisiana’s new COVID vaccine incentive program for the first 75,000 college students who get their COVID-19 vaccine at participating institutions of higher education.

One of the two least vaccinated age groups in Louisiana, 18-29-year-olds, are reporting the most cases statewide.

“The COVID-19 vaccine is the most effective tool we have in our arsenal to fight this pandemic,” said Southeastern President John L. Crain. “It’s imperative that we have as many students vaccinated as possible. We strongly encourage our students to take advantage of the free vaccine and all the incentives that come with receiving it.”

The vaccine is available to Southeastern students this week from Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Additional vaccination events will be announced as they are scheduled.

Upon the first dose of the vaccine, students will receive a deactivated Visa card, while supplies last. After registering online at ShotFor100.com, that card will be loaded with $100.

This new incentive is in addition to the recently launched “Don’t Wait. Vaccinate!” campaign in which fully vaccinated students are eligible to win one of 13 prizes in a series of drawings through early November. Prizes include an all access semester meal plan, three priority parking passes for the 21/22 academic year, an iPad, Bose earbuds, an Apple Watch, a MacBook Pro and more.

All newly vaccinated students will also receive a ticket for a free meal at the Mane Dish and, upon receiving the second dose of the vaccine, will receive a free Southeastern t-shirt with the new Lion Spirit Mark on it. Those receiving the Johnson and Johnson single dose vaccine will receive both items.
