State reports 65 new COVID-19 deaths, 13K cases

The Louisiana Department of Health reported 65 new deaths from COVID-19, and more than 13,000 new cases, in its update Monday at noon.

The LDH noted that the 65 new deaths bring the overall total to 11,584 deaths since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020. There were 57 deaths reported Friday.

Also Monday, the LDH reported 13,239 new cases of COVID, bringing the total cases reported since the start of the pandemic to 628,146. There were 7,548 cases reported Friday.

The LDH reported that there were 2,956 COVID patients in hospitals, and 417 of those were on ventilators. In Friday’s report, there were 2,907 hospitalizations and 417 on ventilators.

LDH officials also reported that non-fully-vaccinated residents made up 90 percent of the cases reported from July 29 through Aug. 4, and 83 percent of the deaths in that same time period. In addition, 91 percent of current COVID hospitalizations are patients who are not fully vaccinated, according to the LDH.

Since the start of the pandemic, Washington Parish has reported 6,250 cases and 156 deaths.
