State has reported more than 600K cases since start of COVID pandemic

The Louisiana Department of Health reported more than 5,000 new cases of COVID-19 in the state, during its update Wednesday at noon.

In Wednesday’s update, the LDH reported 5,408 new cases of COVID, bringing the total cases reported since the start of the pandemic to 601,941. There were 6,088 cases reported Tuesday.

The LDH reported 55 new deaths, bringing the overall total to 11,408 deaths. The state reported 93 deaths in Tuesday’s update.

Also Wednesday, the LDH reported that there were 2,895 COVID patients in hospitals, and 373 of those were on ventilators. In Tuesday’s report, there were 2,859 hospitalizations and 338 on ventilators.

The LDH reported that non-fully-vaccinated residents made up 90 percent of the cases reported from July 29 through Aug. 4, and 83 percent of the deaths in that same time period. In addition, 91 percent of current COVID hospitalizations are patients who are not fully vaccinated, LDH officials said.
